When it comes to skippered yacht charters in Croatia, you’re embarking on an unforgettable maritime adventure. This unique charter type allows you to rent a boat while enlisting the services of a seasoned skipper to steer your voyage. Whether you’re a novice with minimal sailing experience, a seasoned sailor in need of a carefree vacation, or simply someone eager to explore new sailing territories with confidence, a skippered yacht charter is the ideal choice for you.
Why Choose Skippered Yacht Charter?
The advantages of opting for a skippered yacht charter are manifold. With a skipper at the helm, you and your companions can revel in a hassle-free vacation, free from the stress of navigating the seas. Your skipper’s local expertise ensures you discover the most picturesque anchorages, tranquil bays, top-notch restaurants, vibrant nightlife spots, and thrilling activities, enhancing your overall experience.
For those new to sailing, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire sailing skills, while seasoned sailors can refine their existing knowledge.
Our selection process for skippers is meticulous, ensuring they possess not only impeccable sailing and navigational skills but also a friendly demeanor and in-depth knowledge of the region’s history, geography, culture, and people.
Who are our Skippers?
Our skippers are passionate about the sea and sailing, registered professionals recognized by the authorities. Many of them honed their sailing skills from a young age in sailing clubs. Fluent in English and often other languages like Italian, Russian, or French, they bring a multicultural touch to your journey. Despite their diverse backgrounds, they all share an unwavering love for the sea.
How much does the Skippered Yacht Charter cost?
The cost of a skippered yacht charter consists of the bareboat yacht charter fee plus the skipper’s fee and provision costs for the skipper’s meals. The skipper’s fee is paid directly on-site during the check-in process. Expect a daily rate of €220 or a weekly rate of €1,540 for your skipper’s services. You are responsible for providing three meals per day for your skipper, along with ample refreshments.
Other expenses, including boat rental, mooring fees, and fuel costs, remain consistent with bareboat yacht charters. Refer to our “Bareboat Yacht Charter in Croatia” for a detailed breakdown of these expenses.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Your skipper’s primary responsibilities encompass ensuring your safety and an enjoyable vacation. They will expertly navigate the yacht, return it undamaged, and offer recommendations based on their local knowledge. Your preferences are paramount unless weather conditions necessitate adjustments to the itinerary.
As for your obligations towards the skipper, provision for three daily meals and accommodations must be made. We recommend choosing a boat with sufficient berths to accommodate both your party and the skipper comfortably. Additionally, treat your skipper with respect, and don’t expect them to handle cooking, dishwashing, or general cleaning. If these services are required, consider hiring a hostess along with the skipper.
Assistance during mooring, especially in adverse weather conditions, is appreciated and contributes to a safer voyage.
Security deposit and Skippered Yacht Charter
You are obliged to leave the security deposit even if you hire a professional skipper; you will not be liable for the potential damage that occurred due to the navigation but for the damages caused by you or your party. Since in Croatia the naval authority verified crew lists (list of all the people onboard) are mandatory for all charter boats (each exchange of the crew should be reported), it should never be a question of who is responsible for certain damage. The person marked as a skipper on the crew list bears all the responsibility for the damage caused due to the navigation. You and your party will be responsible only for the damages that you cause: e.g. broken window, burns in the kitchen, blocked toilet, lost or damaged dinghy or motor (if you used it yourself) and similar. Since all the skippers we work with have the skipper’s insurance policy which covers their liability up you shouldn’t worry about the possible charge for the damage caused by the skipper since none has any interest in doing so.
Valuable Tips for Your Skippered Yacht Charter in Croatia
For a seamless experience, here are some tips to consider:
Tipping your skipper
Tipping is a common practice in the hospitality industry in Croatia yet not obligatory. It is customary though not obligatory to tip your skipper in the end of your charter. The typical tip amounts 5-15% of the total charter cost. Your budget and satisfaction should guide your tipping decision. More about tipping etiquette on charter you can read on our blog post here.
